New Ownership for St. Maarten’s Yacht Club Port de Plaisance
by Carol BareutherNew York-based real estate developers Reuben and Charles Hoppenstein have acquired control of St. Maarten’s Yacht Club Port de Plaisance (YCPDP), and contracted with Marina Management Services, Inc., of Boca Raton, FL, to assist in the redevelopment of the property. The 90-plus slip YCPDP caters to vessels 40- to 220-feet, and guests have privileges at the adjacent Princess Port de Plaisance Hotel with casino, spa/salon, restaurants, pools, and tennis courts.
The Hoppensteins’ acquisition of Snoopy Island in Simpson Bay Lagoon in the early 1980s paved the way for the father-son team’s development of the Yacht Club Isle de Sol, a megayacht marina that made its debut in 2002. Although the two have since severed ties with Isle de Sol, they retain control of Snoopy Island’s upland acreage and plan to develop a five star resort directly across the lagoon from YCPDP.
