Dame Ellen MacArthur and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston presented the awards that will provide three UKSA students with 90 percent of their tuition fees paid and a monthly allowance while completing the three-year UKSA Yachting Cadetship program.

Four J Class yachts, including the new Huisman-built Hanuman, have communicated their intention to participate in The Superyacht Cup 2009 in Palma, June 24-27. It will be the first time the four J's, Ranger, Velsheda, Shamrock V and Hanuman will race against each other.

Island Global Yachting (IGY) opened a European headquarters in Barcelona, Spain in September. This office will serve as the headquarters for IGY’s business development and property operations in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Anchor Marina, the first marina on Palm Jumeirah, is on schedule to open in December 2008.  Island Global Yachting (IGY) has also confirmed, in an innovative move that marks a change in the way berths are made available, that it launched an exclusive online auction site in November to offer berths to owners and residents of Palm Jumeirah.

Dockwise Yacht Transport’s (DYT) super ship, Yacht Express, will transport a shipload of luxury yachts for the Dubai International Boat Show and the inaugural Abu Dhabi Yacht Show, set for March 3-7 and March 12-14, respectively.

The Australian Government introduced a new visa for the crew of superyachts on 27 October 2008.  This temporary visa allows crew members to work onboard a Superyacht and remain in Australia for up to 12 months.

The Pacific Northwest now has an organization devoted entirely to the yacht industry in the region. Seventeen companies and individuals have united to form the Pacific Northwest Yachting Association (PNYA)
