New megayacht marina will be unveiled in December 2008 The multi-million dollar reconstruction of the Rodney Bay Marina in St. Lucia is nearing completion and on schedule for opening this December, in time for the Atlantic Rally for Crusiers (ARC). Upon completion, Rodney Bay Marina will feature 248 fully reconstructed slips and a refurbished upland component with retail and restaurant facilities. The redevelopment also introduces a new megayacht pier offering 32 berths with the highest quality of support facilities for megayachts up to 250 feet in length. Dedicated to servicing the owners and captains of some of the world's most luxurious vessels, the Rodney Bay Marina's new megayacht dock will feature signature IGY amenities and services including wide docks, on-site Customs & Immigration, multi-phase power, WiFi, crew facilities, concierge and guest relations, and more. Rodney Bay Marina was acquired in early 2007 by Island Global Yachting (IGY), the world's premier owners, developers and managers of marina properties and yachting lifestyle destinations. The company considers the marina as a cornerstone of its portfolio in the Caribbean and is dedicated to showcasing the marina and the island of St. Lucia as one of top megayacht destinations in the world. Already considered a leading center for yachting, sailing and sport fishing, Rodney Bay Marina also offers a 4.5 acre boatyard (also being renovated) and is situated in a well-protected hurricane hole. For the past 16 years the marina has been the completion stop for the famous Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), a grueling 2,700 nautical mile voyage undertaken by more than 230 yachtsmen each year. Andrew L. Farkas, chairman and founder of Island Global Yachting said, "We are so excited to unveil the new Rodney Bay Marina to the Caribbean, as well as the global yachting community. This facility will certainly impact the tourism value of St. Lucia and will open the destination to the highly desirable demographic of the megayacht market. We look forward to continuing to work with the Government and people of St. Lucia to further enhance the economic benefits that the marina brings to the Island from jobs to tourism dollars to tax revenues." "The Rodney Bay Marina has always been something that all of St. Lucia could take pride in," said Cuthbert Didier, general manager of Rodney Bay Marina. "However, now with the renovation, the benefits for the community will be even greater. Business at the marina for the winter season is projected to have the equivalent impact of well over 115,000 room nights at a hotel, which could translate into over $20 million in ancillary spend on our Island." The Rodney Bay Marina was established in 1986 by Arch Marez, a California-based entrepreneur who died in 2005. Through the years, the Rodney Bay Marina has become the center of yachting tourism on the island of St. Lucia, complementing the luxury hotels and condominiums which support its northern tourism belt.
