Three United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA) Yachting Cadetship students were presented with funding from Trinity House at the official launch of the Leisure Industry Nautical Cadet Scheme (LINCS) at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September.     Dame Ellen MacArthur and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston presented the awards that will provide three UKSA students with 90 percent of their tuition fees paid and a monthly allowance while completing the three-year UKSA Yachting Cadetship program.

The Leisure Industry Nautical Cadet Scheme (LINCS) was developed for the charity arm of Trinity House, with the aim of funding young people to enable them to gain the qualifications and experience required for a successful career in the booming nautical leisure industry. Trinity House has partnered with UKSA to ensure that the future of the industry will continue to grow with fully qualified, professional crew.

Jon Ely, UKSA’s Chief Executive, said, “The most effective way to produce officers of the highest quality is to the offer the fully integrated training of the UKSA Cadetship, that includes personal development and academic and nautical qualifications. For many people looking to enter the industry, funding can be a challenge. I fully believe that the UKSA partnership with Trinity House under their new LINCS funding scheme will allow our three students to go on to have excellent careers in a very exciting and ever growing industry, an opportunity they may not have been able to pursue without it. I would commend Trinity House for their vision and wisdom in providing this funding.”     UKSA’s Yachting Cadetship is a three-year blended learning program designed to provide a broad base of training including all qualifications up to MCA Officer of the Watch together with the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean and a series of management and service training modules. The program is delivered through classroom and practical training at UKSA and paid employment phases in the superyacht industry. Cadets also have the opportunity to enhance their cadetship qualifications with a University accredited foundation degree in Operational Yacht Science at UKSA, delivered in conjunction with Falmouth Marine School and the University of Plymouth.
